How Claude verifies your number
According to Anthropic's help center, you need a phone number that can receive a verification code by text message to create and use a Claude account. Phone verification is required for all new users and there is no way to skip it. Anthropic sends a six-digit code by text message, and you type it on the verification screen to prove you have access to the number.
The code is temporary. Anthropic says to enter it within five minutes and, if something goes wrong, to wait up to five minutes, click Try again to reset the screen, and always use the most recent code you received. Anthropic is specific about which numbers it accepts. It only takes numbers from supported locations, and it does not accept VoIP numbers, Google Voice, phone numbers created with apps, landlines, or any number that can't receive texts. It also says you must be physically located in one of its supported locations to create an account. Which country to choose for Claude
Pick a number from the country where you are physically located, because Anthropic requires both the number and your location to be in places it supports. Choosing a different country does not help and is not something SMS Hallo supports. Within your own country, any SMS Hallo number is a real mobile number in the local format; no country receives every code, so if one doesn't work, use the 7-day replacement or the 100% refund.
