How eBay verifies your number

eBay's account security help page describes 2-step verification with several methods: text messages to a mobile phone, an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator, a push notification in the eBay app, and passkeys that use a fingerprint, face or device PIN. Text messages are only one option, and you can combine them with the others.

For text-message codes, eBay says you need a phone that can receive SMS with good reception, that landlines are not supported, and that the code must be entered within a 15-minute window.
