A Nigerian WhatsApp number that stays separate from your SIM

You can register WhatsApp on a rented Nigerian mobile number from SMS Hallo: type it as +234 followed by the 10 national digits without the leading 0, and the 6-digit code lands in your private online inbox. It suits online sellers, Nigerians living abroad and anyone who wants a contact they can share without exposing their main line.

Why Nigerians keep a second WhatsApp line

A second Nigerian number lets you hand out a WhatsApp contact for trade, side hustles or community groups while your personal SIM stays with family and your bank. A second number for online selling keeps that identity tidy.

It also helps Nigerians who moved abroad for study or work. Relatives, landlords and clients at home keep a familiar +234 contact, and you manage it from any country in the SMS Hallo dashboard instead of paying roaming on an old SIM.

Typing a +234 number into WhatsApp correctly

Most failed sign-ups with Nigerian numbers come from the trunk 0. At home you dial 0802 123 4567, but WhatsApp's help center asks for a plus sign, the country code and the number with leading zeros and exit codes removed. So the entry becomes +234 802 123 4567, or +2348021234567 without spaces.

Pick Nigeria from the country list so WhatsApp fills in 234, then type the remaining 10 digits. Thirteen digits after the plus sign is right; fourteen usually means the 0 slipped back in.

WhatsApp then sends a 6-digit code by SMS, or by automated call if you choose Call me after the timer, which can run up to 10 minutes. The SMS appears in your Nigerian number's dashboard inbox with the code detected for one-tap copy. Do not guess codes, since WhatsApp locks out repeated wrong attempts for a while.

Limits worth knowing before you rent

WhatsApp decides which numbers it accepts and lists VoIP, toll-free, premium-rate, universal access and personal numbers as unsupported. SMS Hallo rents real mobile numbers, but no provider can promise that a particular app will accept a particular number. WhatsApp also notes that a previous owner's two-step verification can mean waiting a few days before resetting access.

The number must not be used to pass identity (KYC) or bank checks, to return to a platform after a ban or to create fake or bulk accounts. Nigerian banks, fintech wallets and payment apps often refuse online numbers anyway, so keep them on your own SIM and read the acceptable use policy.

Price, guarantees and Nigerian numbers listed

SMS Hallo currently has 35 Nigerian numbers listed, at the same price as every other country: from $1.80 per month on the 12-month plan ($21.60 billed yearly), with no setup fees. You pay in USDT or USDC.

Every number comes with three guarantees. First, a 7-day free replacement: you can swap it for another available number in the same country, free, up to 3 times, and the new number keeps your plan and expiry date. Second, works or 100% refund: if the number doesn't work with the app you rented it for, for example the code never arrives, request a refund within 7 days and get 100% of what you paid. Third, a 7-day money-back guarantee: a full refund within 7 days, no questions asked, if no call or SMS has been made or received on the number.

If the code doesn't arrive

Wait for the timer and request the code again, or choose the voice-call option. If the number still doesn't work with WhatsApp, replace it free with another +234 number within 7 days, or get a 100% refund.

Frequently asked questions

Should I keep the 0 when I enter a Nigerian number in WhatsApp?

No. The 0 is only for dialing inside Nigeria. WhatsApp asks for international format with leading zeros removed, so 0802 123 4567 is entered as +234 802 123 4567. Choose Nigeria in the country list and type the 10 remaining digits; an extra 0 is a common reason a code never shows up.

Can I use a Nigerian SMS Hallo number while living in the UK or Canada?

Yes. The number is managed online, so you read the WhatsApp code and later SMS in the dashboard from wherever you are. You need no Nigerian SIM and no local address. The phone you register WhatsApp on still needs working data or Wi-Fi during sign-up.

Will WhatsApp accept every number you sell?

We cannot promise that, because WhatsApp sets its own rules and refuses several number types. SMS Hallo numbers are real mobile numbers, and if the code never arrives for the app you rented the number for, the works-or-100%-refund guarantee returns what you paid when you ask within 7 days.

Can I run WhatsApp Business on the Nigerian number?

Yes. WhatsApp Business registers with an SMS or call code in the same way. Many sellers keep regular WhatsApp on their own SIM and WhatsApp Business on a separate number, so customer chats stay apart from family. Check WhatsApp's Business registration guide for its current requirements first.

What happens if the Nigerian number expires?

An expired number may be rented to someone else, who could then register WhatsApp on it. Renew for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months at a time, or turn on auto-renew, if the number carries an account your customers already save as a contact.
