A real phone number for Zoho
Zoho often runs a whole business: mail, CRM, books and more. The recovery number is what lets you reset your password if you forget it or suspect someone else got in, so it should be a number you control for years. A dedicated number keeps that recovery path separate from a personal SIM that might change when you switch carriers or countries. Small business owners and freelancers who run their company on Zoho also like having a number that is not tied to one employee's personal phone contract, while still being personal to the account holder as Zoho requires. Because the SMS Hallo inbox is in a browser, you can read a recovery OTP from any computer, which helps when your usual phone is not at hand. SMS Hallo gives you a real mobile number in the country of your choice, so you can create and secure your Zoho account without sharing your personal number.
The Zoho code lands in your SMS Hallo inbox within seconds and is ready to copy with one tap. Because you keep the number for as long as you like, you can always receive new login codes and recover your account later.

And it's risk-free: if the number doesn't work with Zoho, replace it free within 7 days or get a 100% refund.

Yes, mainly as a recovery mobile number. Zoho Accounts verifies a recovery mobile number with a one-time password (OTP) sent by SMS, and an SMS Hallo real mobile number receives it in your dashboard. Zoho no longer offers SMS as a sign-in MFA method for users who registered after January 1, 2024, and it decides which numbers it accepts; if it does not work, swap free within 7 days or get a 100% refund.
How Zoho verifies your number
Zoho Accounts lets you add a recovery mobile number so you can reset your password yourself. According to Zoho's help center, you go to accounts.zoho.com, open Profile, choose Add Mobile Number, enter the number and click Send OTP. Zoho sends a one-time password by SMS, and you enter it and click Verify. When you later reset your password, an OTP is sent to that recovery number. Zoho asks that the number be personal to you, easy to access and able to receive text messages.
Zoho also has multi-factor authentication with several modes: Zoho OneAuth (push, time-based OTP or QR code), SMS-based OTP, authenticator apps, and security keys. However, Zoho says SMS-based OTP is not offered as an MFA option for users who registered after January 1, 2024, citing risks such as phishing and SIM swapping. Zoho has also announced a migration of existing users and organizations away from SMS-based MFA, with an admin announcement from December 29, 2025.
If an older account still uses SMS-based OTP and you convert your recovery number into the MFA number, Zoho says it can no longer serve as a recovery number, so you need to add another one. If you lose access to your mobile number, Zoho points you to backup verification codes, and without those, to [email protected] for identity verification.
For organization accounts, admins set security policies, including which MFA modes members must use. A number from SMS Hallo does not change those policies or Zoho's identity checks during recovery. Use it only for your own account, in line with SMS Hallo's Acceptable Use Policy.
How to verify Zoho with an SMS Hallo number
- Rent a number — Pick the country you are based in and rent a real mobile number on SMS Hallo.
- Open Zoho Accounts — Sign in at accounts.zoho.com and go to the Profile section.
- Add Mobile Number — Click Add Mobile Number, enter the SMS Hallo number with its country code and click Send OTP.
- Verify the OTP — Copy the one-time password from your SMS Hallo inbox and click Verify.
- Secure sign-in separately — Set up Zoho OneAuth or an authenticator app for MFA, save backup verification codes and turn on auto-renew for the number. Store the backup codes offline so you can still sign in if the number or your authenticator is ever unavailable.
Troubleshooting Zoho verification
OTP does not arrive
Wait a minute and resend once. If nothing arrives, swap the number free within 7 days or request a 100% refund. Also confirm the number is active in your SMS Hallo dashboard and that you entered it with the correct country code.
SMS is not offered for MFA
Zoho does not offer SMS-based OTP MFA to users who registered after January 1, 2024. Use OneAuth, an authenticator app or a security key; the number still works as a recovery number.
Recovery number disappeared after MFA setup
Zoho says a recovery number converted to an MFA number no longer works for recovery. Add another recovery number.
Number not accepted
Check the country code and remove any leading zero. Zoho decides which numbers it accepts, so use the free replacement if it is still refused.
Lost access to the number
Use your Zoho backup verification codes. Without them, Zoho directs you to [email protected].
Organization policy blocks a change
In an organization account, your Zoho admin sets security policies. Ask them if you cannot add or change a number or MFA mode.
Which country to choose for Zoho
Choose the country where you or your business are based. A recovery number from the same country as your Zoho account details is easier to explain if you ever need help from Zoho support, and it keeps your profile consistent. If your team works across several countries, each person should use a number they personally control, since Zoho asks that recovery numbers be personal. No country is certain to be accepted, so the 7-day free replacement and the 100% refund cover you if Zoho will not send an OTP to a number. If you are setting up Zoho for a new company, add the recovery number on day one, before sensitive data and client records start to build up in the account.
