Auto-renew and keeping your number
You can keep an SMS Hallo number for as long as you like by renewing it for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months at a time, or by turning on auto-renew. This matters because an expired number may later be given to someone else, and any account still linked to it could then receive codes on a number you no longer control.
Why keeping your number matters
Apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Google and many online services often send a code again when you change phones, reinstall an app or log in from a new place. If the number has expired, you may be locked out.
A number you have used for important accounts should be treated like your own mobile number: keep it active for as long as those accounts exist.
It helps to keep a short list of which accounts use which SMS Hallo number. When you decide whether to renew, you can see at a glance what depends on it. Where an app offers extra protection, such as a PIN, an authenticator app or backup codes, turn it on as well, so a lost number is never your only way back in.

How auto-renew works
Turn on auto-renew for a number in your dashboard and it renews automatically at the end of each period, so you do not have to remember a date.
Auto-renew is easiest with a funded prepaid wallet (minimum top-up $5), so the renewal can be paid when it is due. Check your balance from time to time, especially if you have several numbers.
What happens at expiry
If a number is not renewed, it expires and you lose access to its inbox and dialer. After expiry the number may be given to another customer.
Before you let a number go, move your accounts to another number or close them. That way no future code or message for you reaches someone else.
Allowances each period
While the number is active, it includes unlimited incoming SMS and calls, 500 outgoing SMS and 1,000 outgoing minutes per month. Allowances reset every 30 days and unused allowance does not roll over.
