WhatsApp Banned Number: What to Do Next

WhatsApp Banned Number: What to Do Next

If WhatsApp has banned your number, the only legitimate way forward is WhatsApp's own review process: tap Request review in the app, or contact WhatsApp support if that is what the ban screen tells you to do, and wait for the decision. According to WhatsApp's Help Center, most reviews are completed within 24 hours, and if no review option appears the ban is final. Using another number to come back after a ban breaks WhatsApp's Terms of Service and SMS Hallo's Acceptable Use Policy.

What a WhatsApp ban actually means

A ban means WhatsApp has decided that activity on the account broke its Terms of Service, and it has stopped that phone number from using the service. According to WhatsApp's Help Center article about account bans, WhatsApp bans accounts when it believes the activity violates its terms, for example involvement in spam, scams or activities that put other users' safety at risk.

When this happens, the app shows a message saying that your phone number cannot use WhatsApp, usually with an option to request a review. On the WhatsApp Business app, WhatsApp's Help Center describes a message that says the phone number is banned and asks you to contact support.

A ban is a decision about the account and the person behind it, not a technical fault with the number. That matters, because it means the fix is never a different SIM, a different phone or a different number. The fix, if there is one, comes from WhatsApp reviewing the decision.

Step by step: requesting a review the official way

WhatsApp provides a review process inside the app. Use it calmly and once, and give accurate information.

1. Open WhatsApp on the phone where the ban message appears. The review option, when it is offered, is shown on that ban screen.

2. Read the message carefully. If it offers Request review, tap it and follow the steps on screen. If you are using WhatsApp Business and the message tells you to contact support, follow that instruction instead.

3. If the app asks for information, keep it short, accurate and honest. Describe how you normally use WhatsApp and why you believe the ban may be a mistake, and do not invent details.

4. Wait for the notification. WhatsApp's Help Center says you will receive a WhatsApp notification once the review is completed.

5. Accept the outcome. If the ban is lifted, you can use the account again. If it is upheld, the decision stands.

How long a review takes and what to expect

According to WhatsApp's Help Center, most reviews are completed within 24 hours. Some take longer, so do not assume a delay means a negative answer.

The same article says that only one phone number can be reviewed per appeal, and that contacting WhatsApp outside the review process, or through another person's account, will not speed up the review or change the decision. Sending many messages to support or asking friends to write on your behalf does not help.

WhatsApp also says that if you do not see an option to request a review, the ban is final and cannot be appealed. This is hard news, but it is better to know it than to spend weeks trying things that cannot work.

Check the Terms to understand what went wrong

While you wait, read WhatsApp's Terms of Service, especially the acceptable use section. It describes the kinds of behavior WhatsApp does not allow, including illegal, harassing or misleading use, unauthorized automated access and collecting information about other users in ways that are not permitted.

Many people who are banned did not set out to break any rule. WhatsApp's Help Center names some patterns it acts on. It says it uses machine learning to identify and ban accounts that engage in bulk or automated messaging. It also says that using unofficial or modified versions of WhatsApp, or linking your account to them, violates its Terms of Service and can lead to a temporary or permanent ban. Business users should also review WhatsApp's rules for business messaging.

Some bans are temporary. According to WhatsApp's Help Center, a Temporarily banned message can mean you are using an unofficial version of WhatsApp or collecting information from other users, known as scraping. WhatsApp advises switching to the official app or stopping the scraping, and warns that otherwise the account may be banned permanently.

Understanding the likely cause helps you write an honest review request and avoid the same problem in the future if your account is restored.

Why a new number is not the answer

It can be tempting to think a ban is tied to a SIM card and that a fresh number solves it. That is not how WhatsApp sees it. Its Terms of Service say that if WhatsApp disables or suspends your account for violating its terms or policies, you agree not to create another account without WhatsApp's permission.

Using a different number to return after a ban therefore breaks WhatsApp's terms. It is also not allowed on SMS Hallo. Our Acceptable Use Policy prohibits using our numbers to come back to a platform after a ban, to get past identity or security checks, or to create fake or bulk accounts. We will not help with that, and this guide does not give tips for it.

If the review is not successful, the honest path is to accept WhatsApp's decision, keep in touch with contacts through other channels you already use, and ask WhatsApp directly if you believe there are new facts it should consider.

Protect the next account you set up legitimately

Once your account is restored, or if you are setting up WhatsApp for the first time on a number that has never been banned, a few habits reduce the risk of problems later.

Message people who expect to hear from you, and avoid bulk or automated messaging. Use only the official WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app, never unofficial modified versions, which WhatsApp's Help Center says break its terms. If you run a business, follow WhatsApp's business messaging rules and let customers opt out easily.

Turn on two-step verification in WhatsApp's settings. According to WhatsApp's Help Center, it is an optional feature that asks for a PIN or password whenever someone tries to verify your phone number on WhatsApp, which makes it harder for anyone else to register your number. Keep the phone number on the account active, because a number you lose control of is a number someone else may eventually use.

If you want a separate number for a legitimate reason, such as keeping a small business chat apart from your personal one, or keeping your personal number private, a real mobile number can do that. SMS Hallo rents real mobile numbers in 181 countries, from $1.80 per month on the 12-month plan ($21.60 billed yearly). That is for new, legitimate use only, never for an account that has been banned.

If you use an SMS Hallo number with WhatsApp

If WhatsApp shows a ban on a number you rent from us, follow exactly the same official steps above. We cannot review, reverse or influence WhatsApp's decisions, and our support team cannot contact WhatsApp on your behalf.

Our guarantees cover whether a number works, not decisions an app makes about your account. They are: a 7-day free replacement, which lets you swap for another available number in the same country, free, up to 3 times, keeping the plan and expiry date; works or 100% refund, which gives you 100% of what you paid if the number does not work with the app it was rented for, for example the code never arrives, when you request within 7 days; and a 7-day money-back guarantee, a full refund within 7 days, no questions asked, if no call or SMS has been made or received on the number.

A replacement number is never a route back to a banned WhatsApp account. If you are unsure what is allowed, read our Acceptable Use Policy or write to support@smshallo.com before you act.

Frequently asked questions

How do I appeal a WhatsApp ban?

Open WhatsApp on the phone showing the ban message and tap Request review if the option appears, then follow the steps. On WhatsApp Business, follow the instruction on the ban screen, which may tell you to contact support. According to WhatsApp's Help Center, you get a notification once the review is completed.

How long does a WhatsApp ban review take?

According to WhatsApp's Help Center, most reviews are completed within 24 hours, although some can take longer. Contacting WhatsApp outside the review process, or asking someone else to contact WhatsApp for you, does not speed it up or change the decision, so the best approach is to wait for the notification.

What if there is no Request review button?

WhatsApp's Help Center says that if you do not see an option to request a review, the ban is final and cannot be appealed. In that case the decision stands. You can still read the Terms of Service to understand what happened and keep in touch with contacts through channels you already use.

Can I use a new number after a WhatsApp ban?

No. WhatsApp's Terms of Service say that if your account is disabled or suspended for breaking its terms, you agree not to create another account without its permission. Using another number to return after a ban also breaks SMS Hallo's Acceptable Use Policy, and we do not help with it.

Why did WhatsApp ban my number?

WhatsApp says it bans accounts when it believes the activity violates its Terms of Service, for example spam, scams or activity that puts other users' safety at risk. WhatsApp does not always explain the exact reason. Reading the acceptable use section of its terms can help you understand what may have triggered it.

Can SMS Hallo support get my WhatsApp ban lifted?

No. Only WhatsApp can review or reverse a ban, through its own process. Our support team cannot contact WhatsApp on your behalf or influence the outcome. Our guarantees cover whether a number works for receiving codes, not decisions an app makes about an account.

Does a refund or replacement number help with a ban?

No. The 7-day free replacement and refund guarantees exist for numbers that do not work, for example when a code never arrives. They are not a way back to a banned account, and using a replacement number for that purpose breaks both WhatsApp's terms and our Acceptable Use Policy.

What is a temporary WhatsApp ban?

According to WhatsApp's Help Center, a Temporarily banned message can mean the account is using an unofficial version of WhatsApp or scraping information. WhatsApp advises moving to the official app or stopping the scraping before the ban ends, and warns that otherwise the account may be banned permanently.
